Oct. 14th, 2013 03:10 pm♥ "Her sword shines, a dream that all warriors scattered in battle, past, present, and future, hold and mournfully exalt as their final moments approach. She carries their will as her pride, bidding them to remain steadfast in their loyalty. Now, the undefeated king sings aloud the name of the miracle she holds in her hands." Watching Saber use Excalibur against Caster's monster.
Starting memory.
♡ She recalls standing at the shore of a river, watching a young woman dressed in knightly armor stand in the center of the water wielding a holy sword. The woman on the water is fighting a monster, and she yells, "Excalibur!" as she unleashes her attack. It's a holy light that fills all who see it with a sense of awe and purpose. The monster is annihilated.
♡ From this she knows that she was participating in some kind of battle; she believes (but does not know for sure yet) that the woman with Excalibur is her ally, and that they had a strong purpose in fighting.
♡ Shortly after her arrival, Barnaby gives her the name "Ivory."
♥ "And Irisviel, from this point on, I entrust you to cover my back." Watching Saber fight Lancer.
Regained on day 289, in Old Joe's team-guessing game, in the form of a small bone disk, surprisingly soft and worn, with a slightly funky smell. Scratch one side with a fingernail to view. Zero out of two uses remaining.
Names are distorted for now.
♡ Ivory recalls walking through a warehouse district behind the young woman from the previous memory, confronting another fighter with a knightly stance, this one a spear-wielding man called Lancer. He says he's invited them to battle and praises the valor of the other woman, who he identifies as "Saber." Saber transforms from an elegant men's suit into armor to fight him, and Ivory herself says she'll use healing magic to support her in battle, but can do no more.
♡ This memory confirms that this Saber was her ally in some kind of battle which they had a strong purpose in fighting. It involves "Masters" who command fighters of some kind, and it has specific rules that, among other things, forbid the fighters from giving their real names.
♡ Just after taking the last memory, Ivory has a conversation with Hawthorn where he tells her to think of herself as something worth fighting for. She doesn't know what to make of that.
♡ Ivory participates in Merlin's "Dear Aather" game with the team Carnelian on day 290. Though she gains no memories from this game, she's fascinated by all the feelings revealed by the letters people submitted and the responses given to them. It's a window into a world she doesn't yet understand.
♥ Being rescued from the depths of the forest by Kiritsugu and falling unconscious in his arms.
Regained on day 291, in the Cheshire Cat's Jenga game, in the form of a packet of jello mix.
♡ Ivory remembers being naked and alone in the depths of a blizzard-strewn forest, worn down from the cold and injured from encounters with wild animals. She's making an attempt to survive, but whether it will succeed is questionable. She also recalls not caring about the cold and the pain--or being particularly afraid of dying. It's something that should probably be avoided, but not a source of fear. As her energy is about to desert her, a distressed-looking man appears and picks her up to keep her safe.
♡ From this Ivory knows that despite all the purpose she felt in the first two memories she regained, there was a time in her life when she felt just as empty as she does now. She also knows that there was someone out there, even if she doesn't know his name yet, who thought she was worth rescuing even in that state.
♥ "We mustn't let him get to Kiritsugu, no matter what we have to do. Isn't that what you're thinking?" Convincing Maiya that they should fight Kotomine together to protect Kiritsugu.
Regained on day 292, in Dorian's kissing game, in the form of a pair of chocolate lips wrapped in red foil.
♡ Ivory recalls fleeing a castle with a serious-faced young woman who she called Maiya, and who addressed her deferentially as "madam." As they flee, Ivory magically senses that someone dangerous, who she identifies as Kirei Kotomine, is approaching the castle. She convinces Maiya that rather than continue to flee as they were ordered to do, they should both stay to fight, as protecting someone called Kiritsugu is the most important thing of all to both of them.
♡ This is another memory where Ivory has a strong sense of purpose that she doesn't understand here in Aather. She'd been starting to relax into the idea that it was okay to not have a purpose yet, but this leaves her questioning that once more. She really wants to know more about this Kiritsugu and just why he was so important to her. Could he be the man who rescued her in the previous memory?
♡ The game itself was also interesting, but Ivory still doesn't understand why people set such stock in kisses. They're just a form of touching, and while that's nice, it's nothing special.
♡ After disappearing for a couple of days to pet the Cheshire Cat, Ivory returns on day 298 in time to take part in the Snow Queen's question and answer game with the team Jasper. They don't win, but the discussion involved sparks strange feelings in her.
♥ "I'm a doll, but you're giving me a choice meant for humans." Kiritsugu suggests that Irisviel run away to save herself; she decides to stay and learn to love him instead. This conversation.
Regained on day 299, in Persephone's plant-growing game, in the form of a chestnut that can be cracked in half. Three out of four uses remaining.
♡ Ivory recalls a conversation, held in a castle surrounded by a blizzard, with the man who rescued her in her earlier memory. She feels neither as empty as she did in that memory nor as full of purpose as she did in some of the others; she simply feels excited about some things she's been learning and discovering. In this memory, she and that man, who she identifies as Kiritsugu Emiya, discuss her purpose as a tool made to be a part of something bloody and violent called the Holy Grail War, which both the people who made her and Kiritsugu himself have a deep desire to fight. Kiritsugu suggests that she run away from all of this and live her life in peace somewhere else in order to avoid some terrible fate connected with this war. She rejects this possibility and instead insists that she's going to stay and learn more about love--starting by learning to love Kiritsugu himself.
♡ This memory is the first to truly give Ivory some insight into why she feels so bereft without a "purpose" here in Aather and why things were so different for her where she came from. She notes that she talks about herself in this memory as if she were different from most human beings, which makes sense to her, as she's already begun to wonder if that's the case from her experiences in Aather. More than that, though, she's very happy to find the first glimmers of purpose in this memory. She thinks that maybe her purpose is to love.
♡ The game itself is really fun to her, especially as she gets along with Kunzite, bonding with Meringue and gently teasing Shes, and the other knight assigned to them, Frost.
♡ She discusses the memory with fellow knight Susan here.
♥ Skill: horrific cooking.
Regained on day 301, in Mulan's exploration game, in the form of a snap pea.
♡ Ivory can now cook. Terribly.
♡ Receiving a skill is nice, but Ivory is more interested in the game itself. Until this game, her only experience with fighting to protect something was the knowledge that she must have done it sometime in the past, even though she couldn't remember it, and that other people had done it as well. Here, she saw the lengths some people will go to fight to protect something dear to them. She also, for the first time, realizes that in order to protect what's dear to you, you have to disobey what seems like the natural path.
♥ Watching Kiritsugu play with Ilya.
Regained on day 302, in the Dormouse's game of two truths and a lie, in the form of a dollhouse chair.
♡ Ivory recalls sitting at the window of a castle and watching the man from her previous memories--Kiritsugu Emiya--play in the snow outside with a young girl with the same white hair as her. He seems affectionate, and they both seem happy, so she's happy too.
♡ Although Ivory doesn't know who the white-haired girl is, this memory affirms for her that pursuing love and kindness is the right thing to do.
♡ The game leaves her in high spirits, confident in her own abilities, and yet more intrigued by the people around her and humanity in general. She's good at understanding and evaluating people and what they say, it turns out.
♥ Trying to heal Saber during the first battle with Lancer and failing.
Regained on day 302, in the Evil Queen's traumatic exploration game, in the form of a silver crown. Six out of eight uses remaining.
♡ The first memory she regained here, the one of two knights preparing to fight in a warehouse district, picks up here. Lancer and Saber converse briefly (noting that he has some kind of magical charm, which he refers to as a curse he was born with), agree on the importance of a fair fight, then proceed to battle. Lancer fights with twin spears, and Saber with an invisible sword; the match reaches superhuman intensity and destructiveness to the environment around them. In mid-battle, though, as Saber and Lancer exchange admiring regards over each other's skill and honor, a man's voice calls out from somewhere unknown telling Lancer to finish the fight quickly, using his "Noble Phantasm" if necessary. Ivory identifies the voice as Lancer's Master. Lancer proceeds to go all out and through both skill and sleight of hand manages to badly injure Saber. Though Ivory is able to heal some of the damage with magic, a key injury to Saber's sword arm remains despite her attempts to heal it, thanks to the magic of one of Lancer's weapons. In the end, Saber is able to guess Lancer's true name through all of this, but the memory ends before their fight can resume.
♡ Saber addresses her by name in this memory: "Thank you, Irisviel." This time, it is not distorted.
♡ Between the time Ivory received the first part of this memory and the second, Lancer arrived in Aather as Dahlia of Peridot. This memory contains his true name, but Ivory misses it on her first viewing of the memory due to how upset she is.
♡ The effect of this memory on Ivory, now identifying herself as Irisviel, is impossible to separate from the game responsible for it. It was her first trauma game, and it began with her being mangled horribly to death along with the rest of the knights, who were all then forced to quest through a dangerous castle for their own revivals. Afterwards, though she herself came back without any pain (aside from the minor injuries she received in the cursed castle), Irisviel got to witness many others coming back to life in great pain. Especially coming after the high of the previous game, it was extremely upsetting. What bothered her most about it was the realization that sometimes kindness and affection would not always be enough to get the right results. The memory echoed that: despite the initially pleasant and honorable nature of the battle, Saber wound up badly wounded, and despite Irisviel's best efforts, she could not support Saber in the way she'd promised in the preceding memory. For now, all of this has only made her more determined to be kind and loving here in Aather--but it's no longer just a matter of finding her purpose. It's a matter of showing defiance to those who hurt her and the people around her.
♡ The very next day, Irisviel joins in on a raid against the Darkness. She wants to see if this fight is really worth it, after realizing how brutal it can get. When the raiding party discovers the emperor rat, she realizes that there are things out there that don't fit into a world made of love, and she's shaken.
♥ "Of all the toys Kiritsugu has brought me over the years, this is my absolute favorite!" Driving with Saber.
Regained on day 303, in the Mad Hatter's game of Taboo, in the form of a headband with a word on it. One use.
♡ Snow Queen plot!
♥ Magic circuits.
Regained on day 306, in Hades' plant-growing game, in the form of a dark black ball of chocolate.
♥ Homunculus nature.
Regained on day 310, in Goldie's kissing game, in the form of a tube of lipstick.
♥ "It's the first time I've ventured into the outside world." Arriving in Japan with Saber; convincing her to take her on a date before the battles start.
Regained on day 311, in Maleficent's uniform design game.
♥ Watching Saber, Archer, and Rider at the Banquet of Kings.
Regained on day 312, in Lancelot's game of guilt.
Starting memory.
